Belle Vue, in Manchester, is the home of
the Aces. The Hyde Road stadium was
opened in 1928—famously staying active
throughout the war years. In 1987, Hyde
Road was demolished and the club moved
to its present location at Kirkmanshulme
Lane. Top Belle Vue riders of the golden
age include Frank Varey, Bob Harrison,
Acorn Dobson, Ivan Mauger, P
eter Collins,
Ove Fundin and Peter Craven.  But that was
